Chicken broth: Which is gluten free?
Clearing up the confusion on which brands are gluten free.
One of the most common questions I get asked is "Chicken broth?? What could possibly be in there that contains gluten?" This was a hard one for me to grasp too, in the beginning. But after a lot of label reading, it's quite scary. Most broths include hydrolyzed wheat gluten AND MSG. Blech! So I decided to do the homework and find out which brands are gluten free so you are prepared for the next grocery store trip.

I'm not Alton Brown but I think yeast is added to dough to make bread. It does not come from bread. Anyway, Gluten comes from the protein in grains like wheat and rye.
If the product does not contain a 'gluten grain' (or derivative) then it is gluten free.
BTW, yeast (by itself) does not contain gluten either.
MSG goes by many names (e.g., yeast extract, hydrolyzed protein, ect.) as the food industry cares more about sales than your health. For a complete listing of all the different pseudonyms this neurotoxin appears on food labels go to, truthinlabeling.org.
After examining all the different names that MSG deceptively appear on labels, you will see that many of the above stock products actually contain MSG.
